so sunday night was quite the adventure for us and toby...his first trip to the vet! Not for a regular check up or anything like that, but for an emergency.
saturday, i (cameron) was running errands and picked up toby's next vaccine from the safeway pharmacy. my dad has vaccinated his own puppies for years so sunday night, we bring toby over to my parents and my dad gives him the vaccine. no problem; he squealed, itched the back of his neck where we got stuck and then went on his normal happy way.
after dinner, i took him out front to let him go to the bathroom and as i was bringing him back in, i noticed something a little off...around his right eye was really swollen. i showed my dad and he said he may have just scratched it or gotten something in it.
10 minutes later...he looked like this...

(we didn't take an actual picture of him cause we really didn't want to remember what he looked like....but this is what i kept thinking of..)
well..he didn't turn into will smith but had an allergic reaction to rival the one that "hitch" experienced. needless to say jess and i were freaking out. we contacted an emergency 24 hour vet and they said to bring him in.
an hour and a half and $200 later, toby was good as new, almost. he had a benadryl and steroid injection and a fluid injection to help with dehydration. (after the fluid injection, he looked like he had a water-filled sac sitting on his back...kinda gross) it took a while for the swelling to go down and even longer for his camel-back to absorb.
but alas, he is back to his old self, as the vet so lovingly called him, "the little spitfire"
the fun never ends with the tobster around!
